Reviewing examples of prescription fraud

When it comes to prescription fraud, there are various reasons why physicians, pharmacies, nurses, pharmacy employees and those who take prescriptions may find themselves facing charges. It is important to understand the many different reasons why these cases arise and take steps to handle these allegations properly if you have been accused of prescription fraud. Across Texas, many people have had their lives ruined as a result of prescription fraud cases, and these charges have become increasingly prevalent in recent years. The consequences, some of which have been outlined on our blog, can be devastating.

Physicians may be accused of writing excessive or fraudulent prescriptions, but they are not the only ones who run the risk of being charged with this offense. Adults, as well as juveniles, may face these charges if they are suspected of unlawfully obtaining prescription drugs. For example, someone who gains access to prescription drugs by falsely presenting symptoms, forging prescriptions or filling one prescription at multiple pharmacies may be charged with this offense.

There are a number of ways in which pharmacies are accused of prescription fraud as well. For example, a pharmacist may face accusations that they diluted prescription drugs so that they could sell more or they may be accused of overfilling a patient’s prescription. Moreover, a pharmacy may be accused of giving someone prescription drugs without a prescription altogether.

Whether you run a pharmacy or take a certain prescription drug, it is crucial to know what is at stake and handle your case in the right manner if you have been charged with prescription drug fraud.
